Legend of the Giant Panda

The giant panda haven't always had their distinctive black and white markings. The legend of how panda's got their black markings goes something like this.

Long ago, pandas used to be entirely white. One day, a young shepherdess came across a young panda cub that was being attacked by a leopard. Seeing the cub was in danger, the shepherdess rushed to its aid, giving the cub time to escape. However, she was killed by the leopard during the selfless act.

Pandas everywhere heard of this act and came to the girl's funeral. As was customary, they wore black armbands to show their grief. They covered their ears with their paws to block out the sound of their wailing. In their sadness, they hugged each other and rubbed their eyes to wipe away their tears. The black ink from their armbands ran onto their ears, limbs and around their eyes.

From that day onwards, pandas have had black ears, limbs and eye patches.
